STUNGTRENG ADVENTURE

Stung Treng is a northern province of Cambodia. It was formerly called Xieng Teng and was once a part of the vast Khmer Empire, then the Lao kingdom of Lan Xang and later the Lao kingdom of Champassack. During the period of French Indochina it was again ceded to Cambodia. The provincial capital is also named Stung Treng and is an important trade hub with a few hints of Lao influence scattered about, owing to the fact that the Lao border is about 50 km away. It’s a friendly, quiet country town situated on the confluence of the San River and the Mekong River. It actually sits on the banks of the San River, with the mighty Mekong coming into the picture on the northeastern outskirts of he town.

Day 1
ARRIVAL PHNOM PENH

Upon arrival at Phnom Penh international airport, welcome and transfer to hotel. Lunch at local restaurant. Visit to the Royal Palace, the sacred monument of Silver Pagoda, which is well known for its 5000 silver tiled floor, National Museum for an appreciation of the splendor of Khmer history, and Wat Phnom, topped with a huge stupa as well as Buddhist temple, continue to visit the Tuol Sleng Prison Museum former high school turn to torture center and prison in Khmer Rouge regime which was know as S21, it deeps insight into the painful bloody rule of the Khmer Rouge. Dinner at local restaurant.

Day 2
PHNOM PENH – BATTAMBANG (B)

Breakfast at hotel. Early morning visit to local market the car drive to Battambang the second city of Cambodia, en route visit to pottery village, visit to marble carving village in Pursat province. Lunch at local restaurant. Arrive in Battambang check in hotel. Late afternoon explore the well preserved colonial building along riverside, then dinner at local restaurant. Overnight in Battambang.

Day 3
BATTAMBANG (B)

After breakfast, visit to the provincial museum a large collection of Angkorian and pre-angkorian artifacts were collected from the ruin temples in Battambang province, visit Khmers traditional houses along riverside were built nearly a century ago but they still stands in very good condition with lively architecture, then continue to Wat Sla Ket one of the oldest pagodas in the province and is a home of monks, and temple of Ek Phnom, Hindu temple built in 11th century under King Suryavarman I. It consists of prasats on a platform with some carvings in pretty good condition, on the way back to the town you have chance to observe livelihood of local villager that some families produce rice paper for spring roll, Overnight in Battambang.

Day 4
BATTAMBANG – SIEM REAP (B)

After breakfast. Early morning transfer to harbor then get on the boat to Siem reap along riverside, and Tonle Sap lake that is the biggest fresh water lake in South East Asia, from time to time, place to place you will encounter the variety of daily life activities of farmers and fishermen, floating schools, markets, pagodas, along the river and the lake. Picnic lunch will be served on boat, a couple hours before arriving Siem Reap, you will pass Prek Toal, like most floating villages, it is a sophisticated and bustling township of fisher-folk, boat builder and businessmen, providing everything which a town on dry land and provide it population, and it is also the birds sanctuary where is the home of many rare species birds in this country. Upon arrival at Siem Reap pier, transfer to hotel. Dinner at local restaurant. Overnight in Siem Reap.

Day 5
SIEM REAP, ANGKOR (B)

Breakfast at hotel.

AM: Visit to temple of Banteay Samre a large, comparatively flat temple displaying distinctively Angkor Wat-Style architecture and artistry and many of the carvings are in excellent condition, temple of Banteay Srei (citadel of women) the 10th century temple dedicated to Shiva, built with pink sandstone, on the main interest are the tree central towers which are decorated with male and female divinities, and Kbal Spean where the ancient Khmers carved thousand of linga images into the exposed stone riverbed with the spectacular landscape around the stream. Lunch at local restaurant.

PM: Visit to to temples of Kravan the five brick towers were built for Hindu worship in 921 and are notable for the bas-reliefs cut into the bricks on the interior walls, East Mebon is a small temple built in 9th century, in the reign of king Rajendravarman, who named the temple ‘Yashodharatataka’ (the reservoir of Yashodhara). A thousand years ago, the waters of the East Baray would have lapped around the temple’s foundations, but nowadays it has completely dried up. And Pre Rup built in 10th century and is perhaps the best example of temple-mountain style structure. Dinner at local restaurant. Overnight in Siem Reap.

Day 6
Siem Reap, Angkor (B)

Breakfast at hotel.

AM: Visit to South gate, temples of Bayon is the temple mountain that stands at the center of Angkor and one of the most popular of Angkor’s monument and an amazing collection of towers with smiling faces, Ba puon the pyramid shape represents the mythical Mount Meru and marks the center of the city that was here before Angkor Thom, Phimean Akas near the center of what was once the royal palace within Angkor Thom. Phimeanakas means Celestial Palace, Leper King and Elephant terraces this terrace was used for viewing public ceremonies and was a base for the King grand audience hall. The famous lines of elephants are at either end of the retaining walls.. Lunch at local restaurant.

PM: Visit to temple Angkor Wat a temple dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu by King Suryavarman II, who reigned between 1131 and 1150. It is the world famous for its beauty and splendor. In 1992 the UNESCO declared the monument and the whole city of Angkor a World Heritage Site. sun set view from the top of Bakheng hill. Dinner with traditional dance show at local restaurant. Overnight in Siem Reap.

Day 7
Siem Reap, Angkor (B)

Breakfast at hotel.

AM: Visit to temples of Neak Pean built by King Jayavarman VII (ruled 1181 to 1201), it is a Buddhist temple consisting of a square pool with four smaller square pools arranged on each axis. In the center of the large central pool is a circular island encircled by two Nagas with intertwined tails, Preah Khan a temple built by King Jayavarman VII with towered enclosures and shoulder-hugging corridors in a jungle setting, Ta Prohm temple one of the most popular attractions of Angkor as much of the jungle has not been cleared and it looks very much as most of the Angkor monuments would have appeared when European explorers first stumbled across them, and Lunch at local restaurant.

PM: Visit National Silk Center at Puok specialized in producing silk. Cambodia’s Golden Silk is known as one of the finest in whole South East Asia. Learn the whole process of production from techniques of mulberry growing to silkworm breeding and weaving, and artisan d’Angkor a professional training school was founded to help young Cambodian from rural countryside, Dinner at local restaurant. Overnight in Siem Reap.

Day 8
SIEM REAP – KAMPONG CHAM (B)

Breakfast at hotel. Early morning car transfer to Kampong Cham, en route you will pass by road through beautiful paddy fields and villages, visit to the former capital of Ancient Khmer (Chenla), Sambo Prey Kuk, upon arrival at Sambor Prey Kuk you will be accompanied by our guide who will give in-depth information about the structures of Prasat Tao, Prasat Sambor and Prasat Yeah Puon, then start a short trekking tour to Prasat Asrom Moha Eisey, Cambodia’s oldest temple and Prasat Chhrey, located just a few meters away. This tree overgrown temple is one of the most impressive sights in Sambor Prey Kuk, Lunch at local restaurant. Continue to Kampong Cham by passing Skun town where many venders sell spider, and it has been know as spider ville, visit to Nokor Bar Chey the ancient temple with modern style pagoda, Check in hotel. Overnight in Kampong Cham.

Day 9
Kampong Cham – Mondulkiri (B)

After breakfast drive to Kampong Cham. Cross the Japanese built bridge towards Mondolkiri Province, enjoy the spectacular view of the plantations of rubber, cassava, pepper, fruits, arrive in Mondulkiri, an isolated forested province south of Ratanakiri, nestled against Cambodia’s eastern border with Vietnam. Dinner at local restaurant.

Day 10
Mondulkiri (B)

After breakfast. Travel 7 Km north of Sen Monorom to visit the village of Phulung and Phu Tang, where elephant treks are organized. Full exploration of the forest by elephant. Lunch on site. Return to Sen Monorom for dinner at local restaurant.

Day 11
Mondulkiri – Kratie (B)

After breakfast. Departure for 37 Km on the bumpy road along two rivers to Bu Sra. Pass through several ethnic Phnong village on the way to Bu Sra. The road to Bu Sra leads past Bu Sra Water fall, one of the largest in Cambodia. Explore the countryside surrounding Bu Sra. Enjoy the beautiful scenery with its rice fields. Visit traditional Phnong villages and their farm. After lunch, transfer to Kratie, upon arrival at Kratie town, catch the ferry boat to Koh Trong (The Mekong island), dinner will be served by the community. Overnight at Homestay.

Day 12
Kratie (B)

After breakfast, You will join with local people, observe and participate in a daily life of small fishing and farming village. You can visit the morning market to see the unique vegetables and fruits in this province, mid morning return to home enjoy cooking with villagers for your meal, then you can pay alms to the local monks, this is a daily Buddhist ceremony in which you can participate. PM: hire a bicycle to visit nearby sites such as local pagoda, fruits plantation and local villages. Late afternoon take the boat back to Kratie town. Overnight in Kratie.

Day 13
Kratie – StungTreng (B)

Breakfast at the hotel Car drive along Mekong river to the north of Kratie town with stop at Kampi (15km from town) is the great natural resort where is the home to dolphins, here you will have a chance to spot the endangered freshwater Irrawaddy dolphins, Car drive to Stung Treng the riverside town then visit to Mekong blue, a local silk weaving center offering work and an income to disadvantaged young women in this remote area, visit to Wat Kandal the oldest Buddhist pagoda in this town. Dinner at local restaurant. Overnight in Stung Treng.

Day 14
Stung Treng – Dom Kralor (B)

After breakfast, Visit to the local market where local people go to buy food, vegetables, in the early morning, then continue to the border.
